As you may know, I'm Ukrainian and also an Orthodox Christian (I'm not very religious though). So we celebrate Christmas on January 7th. This is what I wore this year for a nice evening with my friends before heading home to spend some time with my family.

I'm wearing:

Dress - thrifted, some Asian brand I can't find in Internet (love the dress though)

Cobalt blue sweater - Oggi

Boots - no brand

Belt - B.P.C.

Venetian glass earrings and bracelet - present from my mom, one of the first jewelry items she ever made

Ring - present from Venice (it wasn't intentional, I swear)))

Coat - H&M

Bag - Orsay (way too similar to Alexander McQueen's Rocco Duffel bag for it to be a coincidence, but what the hell, I love it. And I can't affordMcQueen))))

Monday fashion inspiration - Dancewear

No, I'm not mad, I've just started dancing again)))
It's a bit weird for me - I've studied a lot of different styles over the years, but haven't done anything except yoga for a while and I'm sooo out of shape. I've been taking hip-hop, salsa, strip-dance and even belly/oriental dance classes before (but have never been really good at anything))).

Для мене це ще трошки дивно - я вивчала багато різних видів танцю, але вже довго не займалась нічом, окрім йоги, тому зараз абсолютно не в формі. Я ходила на заняття з хіп-хопу, сальси, стріп-пластики та навіть східних танців (і ніколи ні в чому зірок з небес не хапала))).

If it wasn't for one of my greatest friends, I think I would still be sitting on my bed, holding laptop and working from morning till late night. But as I once told, my friends and I have a tradition - our friends from Moscow come to visit us every January, and friends from Vilnius and Saint Petersburg - every August.
So D., who's really been into contemporary dancing lately, told me, that she'd love to go to a dance lesson while she's in Kyiv. I've already had a coupon for 4 lessons, so we went together. Now she left, but I'm still here and still dancing. And loving it)))
To tell you the truth, I look ridiculous) And every muscle in my body is either sore or bruised. But I honestly don't care. I know that I'm too old to have any career in dancing, but I'm loving it and it's the most important thing.
And I'm already obsessing over new clothing options) Maybe it's wrong, but I can;t help myself, I love that my new obsession for contemporary dancing is feeding my all-time obsession with fashion)

Якби не одна з моїх найкращих подруг, я б й досі щодня сиділа на ліжку, обіймаючи лептоп. і працювала б з ранку до пізньої ночі. Та, як вже колись казала, у нас з друзями є традиція - мої подруги з Москви приїжджають до нас що січня, а подруги з Литви та Санкт Петербурга - що серпня.
Тож Д., яка останнім часо дуже захопилась контемпорарі, сказала мені, що хотіла б сходити на урок з танців, поки вона в Києві. У мене вже був купон на 4 уроки, тому ми пішли разом. Зараз вона вже поїхала, а я лишилась і й досі танцюю! І мені це подобається!)
Кажучи по правді, я маю безґлуздий вигляд) Кожен мяз у моєму тілі болить або через крепатуру, або через синці. Але мені байдуже. Я знаю, що в можму віці вже не зробиш кар'єру у танцях, але мені це подобається, і це найголовніше.
І я вже радію новим гардеробним горизонтам. Так, може це й неправильно, але я нічого не можу вдіяти. Це ж так прекрасно - коли нове захоплення підгодовує натхненням старе та перевірене часом)

As an event planner I'm attending lots of parties - both as a guest and as a planner. This one had mafia theme, and it was really fun. I love watching other people genuinely enjoying the parties we've planned for them))

I've been working really hard this past year - I have three jobs and barely ever allow myself to rest through the whole weekend - so in the end of this busy time decided to make myself a few presents)

It;s not all - I've also bought myself a great pair of black boots (this is when I have to go and knock on the wood)) with the rest if my birthday money (sadly I don't have a good picture now). That's how busy I was - I had no time to spend my birthday money!

So:

Jessica Simpson Maris wedge sandals in elk - they were an absolute bargain, and I do need some nice wedges for spring/summer (though who knows, this winter is still really warm)).

Knitwear dress from boohoo.com - I really like it, but it has a slight problem. The sizes are too big, so 10-12 fits more like 14-16. I need to sew it in.

And this pretty flight jacket - I really wanted to have it in chocolate, not in stone, so I might eng up ordering the chocolate one too))

{holiday time outfit post - Snow White}

We've had a holiday party at work (well, actually we've had it at the country club). The theme was movie and cartoon heroes, so I've decided I just have to be Snow White. Ever since I've cut my hair everyone is telling me that I look like Disney Snow White (and also I have a mug with her picture). My favorite Disney pricess is Jasmin, but that was out of the question - nether hair no abs to pull her costume off))
I thought about renting the costume, but then decided that it'stoo easy and no fun. So I've paid something like 1.5 dollars for my costume and still am really happy about it.

My costume consisted of:

Thrifted vitage dress - actually, one of the first itenms I ever thrifted.
My mom's petticoat - to add some volume to the dress bottom
Thrifted M&S slip
My mom's red belt (my mom is a very stylish woman)))
Polka dotted balerinas - Blink, I've bought them for the whole summer
Cherry earrings - made by my mom ages ago
Red bows for shoes - bought at the decorations shop
Big red bow - I've made it from some ribbons.

I'm pretty happy with how my costume turned out. I loved being a 60-s inspired Snow White)))

The party was a huge success (I was the one of the two planners, so I'm pretty happy with it). We've had so many great costumes! Doctor House, Batman, Darth Veider, Tinker Bell, Lilu from the Fifth Element, Desperado, even Uncle Sam)). Also a few twins - two Cruellas, two Legally Blondes, two Pippy Longstockings, lots and lots of pirats)))

With my closest colleagues - Katya (La Bandida), Lena (Cruella de Vil), Diana (Debbi Callahan from Polica Academy) and Maks (Léon The Professional)

Sorry for disappearing - life's been really crazy lately.

Lots of work - both at my day job and with freelance projects - and lots of stuff in my real life that needed my attention.

I've organized a party for 9 year old boy, who wanted a to learn how to krump (so I've invited a former SYTYCD participant to teach him and his guests)).

I've also spoken to teens in the Leader School about being an event planner and taught them how to organize a simple party.

My nephew celebrated his 3 birthday (Игорешка, я тебя очень люблю и желаю всего самого-самого! Расти здоровым и счастливым на радость папе и маме!).

And on the sad note - one of my best friends lost her father, so all of my hart goes to her and her family (Luv, I know, how hard this is. Hold on, be strong, and I'm always there for you).

But I'll try and be a better blogger from now on. So a few outfit posts are coming up pretty soon)

My weekend is lovely so far.
First of all - I've finally managed to apply for an international passport! I've been thinking about doing it for several years, but never had the time. Now it's done, and I'll get my traveling passport really soon.
Second - I'm going to get manicure and spa treatment (thank you, Groupon and similar web-sites)).
And finally - I;m going to my friend's birthday in the evening) РД, с прошедшим днем Варенья! Оставайся все такой же эпической мегаженщиной!))
So now I'm off to treat myself to some nice SPA-procedures. I have my new mustard earrings (from my Antares flower buttons collection. Write me, if you're interested), my favorite cobalt sweater and the warmest coat I own, because it's freezing!))

Monday fashion inspirations - dresses and cardigans

As it gets colder and colder, I tend to wear more dresses and cardigans. I even try to incorporate some of my summer dresses into my autumn wardrobe by wearing them with tights, boots, knee-high socks and warm cardigans.
But my main inspiration is this type of looks from Katie McGrath' 'Aida' photoshoot - cute tartan, warm colors (I love mine brighter though, because lately I'm craving colors like there's no tomorrow). They may be seen as a bit of librarian type of outfits, but I'd love to find a similar dress while thrifting and to wear it with some bright sweater and my favorite brown high heeled boots)

You might remember this outfit from the cat story post, but I've managed to get something close to head-to-toe picture only now. I loved wearing this outfit in the summer - it's pretty, easy to accessorize and has that boho vibe I love so much.
And it's so weird to see myself with long hair again)

To other news - on Tuesday we've had a Mexican party at my office (photos are goint to appear here soon), tomorrow I'm organizing a 1920 style party for a client (I've attended a 1920 party almost a year ago, so I do have a dress and everything, and that's great, 'cause as an event planner I always stress about being dressed appropriately and in the event's theme) and then I'm planning a birthday party for a ten year old, who loves to have the best birthdays in his school (no pressure, duh). Also - having major internet problems at home and no time for taking pictures of my current outfits. I feel like the worst blogger ever.

Friend Friday - I heart books

I was so excited to find out that we're talking about books today. Books i can do)) Books are by far my favorite topic)
I couldn't name only 5 favorite books, so it's gonna be 6)

My top 6 favorite books of all time:

- The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov. An incredible and truly unique story, that has everything. I'm honestly can't even describe how much I love it - it's amazing and always the #1 for me.

- The Forest Song (Lisova Pisnya) by Lesya Ukrainka. One of the best Ukrainian writers, a really strong and talented woman, who could speak ten (!) languages and made a lot for my country and it's literature. The Forest Song is an amazing, gentle, beautiful and sad story about an ordinary village guy and mavka, the spirit of the forest. It's enchanting and magical, and also one of the best guides to Ukrainian folklore and it's mythological beings.

- The Catcher in The Rue by J.D. Sallinger. It was given to me by one of my closest friends when I was still in high school. The simple cheap paperback with his favorite quotes highlighted. I've read it in one breath, and also highlighted my favorite quotes. Then my other friend read it and told me about her favorites (so I've re-read it and highlighted some of them too). I still have that paperback book and I think of it as one of my treasures.

- Three Comrades (Drei Kameraden) by Erich Maria Remarque. A great, great novel about true friendship, and an old trusty car, and a strong beautiful women. It makes my laugh, makes me cry and makes me cherish my friends even more.

- On the Road by Jack Kerouac. It's beautiful book about two best friends, based on the lives of the real two best friend. About love for an open road, and meeting new people, and freedom, and Dean's simple life philosophy.

- Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. I've read it last year (thanks to my friend Tamara, who presented me with the book) and I loved it even more than I've expected. The book is great - unique, a bit creepy and absolutely amazing. I wouldn't change one word.

The 5 Most Recent Books I’ve Read and Loved:

- Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris. As a huge fan of True Blood I was a bit skeptical about reading the books. Don't get me wrong, I always choose book over it's adaptation, but in case of modern vampire fiction I'm very careful about the books (I was brave enough to read Twilight, and it was awful. I apologize if I hurt anyone's feelings, but I didn't like it at all). But I was pleasantly surprised by this book - it was really good, and interesting, and well written, and I loved this Sookie much more than the TV-show's one.

- The Eagle of the Ninth by Rosemary Sutcliff. I know, I know, it's adventure novel for children, but I loved the movie, and I also loved the book.

- Chocolate by Joanne Harris. I've read this book a few times, on different languages, and I loved it so much! It's much, much better than the movie. I love strong women, both in life and in literature, and Vianne is amazing.

- The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. A dark, mysterious, gothic novel, an homage to Wythering Heights and Jane Eyre. And when I say dark, I mean dark. Dark and deviant, and very captivating.

- The Lady in the Car with Glasses and a Gun (La Dame dans l'auto avec des lunettes et un fusil) by Sébastien Japrisot. I've read it when I was a teenager, and re-read it a few times (last time - a few weeks ago). A great detective novel, a great mystery and a great character - strong and intelligent woman, just the way I like))

AVON against domestic violence

I've got my AVON empowerment ring yesterday, and don't want to take it off anytime soon. I honestly find this new initiative by AVON and Stop the Violence a great project.
Sadly I know what domestic violence is. I don't want to get into details, but it's awful, especially for young children and women. I'm gonna do anything to help.

На жаль, я добре знаю, що таке домашнє насильство. Не хочу вдаватись у деталі, але це жаливо, особливо коли стосується дітей та жінок. Я робитиму все, щоб допомогти.

This day is happy, but also really sad.
Those, who's following my blog for a while, know, that last year, on this same day, I've lost my father. I'd never believe that there could be such a coincidence, but now I know that it could. But this year I refuse to let this fact steal my birthday. I can't change what's happened, but I plan to spend this day as fun as I possibly can)

Thrift finds of the week

Of many weeks))) Yeah, it's been a while - at first I was in Moscow, then I came back to work just to find a huge madness because of our agency's biggest project. So the next week I've spent between two cities, organizing entertainment program for a week long conference. And when it all was finished, I've got a new client end had to spend this week organizing a new event. But now I have a few free hours, so I'll try to caught up on blogging)
So, thrift finds of past three weeks (my God, it's been so long!). There's been a few, and finally I've got some color)

Maxi dress with a great print. I need to alter it a bit, because it's too big on me, but I can;t wait to wear it (and I'll have to wait fro like 7 month)))

Colorful floral top - I really like florals on dark, and it's been one of the trends I was very looking to wearing this autumn.

Military Zara dress - I always wanted to try something like this. So buying such a dress from thrift store is the best solution - I didn't have to pay much for it and I wouldn;t be disapponted if it turned up wrong for me. When I brought it home, I saw the stain (you can also see it on the picture above) and I really hope it'll came off after washing.

Asos Union Jack t-short, hand-knitted sweater and a cute Warehouse skirt (I've been looking for something like this for a while).

MNG strapless dress - I'm in love with colors and pattern, and I love the fact that I can wear it as a skirt and as a dress.

My favorite find of past weeks. I have no idea what brand is this - I've tried googling it, but I was sent to some Korean web-sites. This dress is really costumy - it has an under skirt and a really full skirt, high waist and a great bodice, so I think it can be a piece from some king of an Asian store. Love this dress to pieces - I wore it to conference I've told you about, and I've got lots of compliments))

And this great leather boots - I've never bought shoes in thrift store, and I never thought I would. But these boots are great, I think I'm gonna wear them tomorrow.

Fall is finally here and it's getting colder every day. My friend from other city told me that they've had first snow today.
Oh, I'm so not ready for the snow! It's too early! We don't usually have snow until the middle of December! I still want to enjoy my golden autumn)
On such days I like to look through my summer photos. What a great time it was!
These pictures were taken on August 24, the Independence Day (I still have long hair!)), when we went to one of my favorite parks - I've already made a few posts about it, but this one is the best)
It was such a great day - lying in the sun, talking, laughing, eating delicious pies and drinking great Georgian wine. Loved it so much <3

Нарешті прийшла осінь, і тепер з кожним днем стає холодніше. Моя подруга з Полтави каже, що в них сьогодні йшов сніг. Я не готова до снігу! Морально не готова! Ще надто рано! Я хочу, щоб як завжди - перший сніг був у середині грудня! Я хочу золотої осені! В такі дня я дуже люблю роздивлятись літні фотографії. Яке ж було чудове літо! Ці фотографії було зроблено 24-го серпня, у День Незалежності України (тоді в мене ще було довге волосся!). Ми з друзями тоді поїхали у Пирогів, один з моїх найбільш улюблених парків - я вже робила кілька постів про нього, але цей найкращий)
Такий був чудовий день - лежиш собі на сонечку, розмовляєш, смієшся, їси смачнющі пиріжки та запиваєш їх не менш смачнющим грузинським вином. Краса та й годі <3

Tell Me About Yourself

Wonderful Jill from Everything Just So gave me the “Tell Me About Yourself” award. So I've been asked to tell seven random facts about herself. Here we go)))

1. I'm a classic geek) Honestly, I am. I love Doctor Who, Torchwood, Fringe, Battlestar Galactica, I adore Naomi Novik's Temeraire series...

And I'm friends with lots of geek girls too. Each time we have a girls night out, we dress in some cute dresses, go to some restaurant, drink wine and talk about something like Being Human or Misfits. Yeah, that's how modern geeks look like))

2. I'm a pescaterian for something like 6,5 years. I don't eat meat or chicken, but i do occasionally eat fish and sea food.

3. I currently have three jobs: I work at advertising and events by day, and also freelance as a translator for two studios - I translate lots of movies (the last one was Mamma Mia - we have to translate it again when a new TV-channel buys the rights to show it), TV-shows, documentaries etc.

4. I'm not into sweets and cakes, at all. When eating out I don't usually order dessert. But if i do, it's usually cheesecake))

5. Everyone in my family wears glasses, except for me (but I feel like I need to check my eyes soon - they get pretty tired because I work on computer too much)

6. If I'd have to name one accessory I can't live without, I'd have to choose belts. I belt everything - dresses, shirts, cardigans, jackets, coats, even my winter parka's))

7. My favorite girls is young Irish actress Katie McGrath - I love her style, her sence of humor and the fact that she's also a geek)) I think we'd talk about Firefly and Nathan Fillion for hours) (Also check out my Katie McGrath style blog))

I'm back!

It's been a great and a bit stressful. We've had a great time - wonderful walks around the city, delicius meals at my favorite restaurants, cozy rooms at my new favorite hostel (I've never lived in a hostel before, but this one, called Godzillas, was all I wanted and more - nice rooms, great neighbours, perfect location and a perfect price)), and even a chance to visit PaperWorld Expo.
Also we've almost missed out flights. Yes, plural! I've never ever been late to the airport before, but today we've arrived to check-in desk 2 minutes before the end of registration. I thought I was going to die of a massive heart attack!
Well, we've caught our flight, so right now I'm at home, blogging and drinking green tea from my favorite cup, which was given to me by my perfect Grandma)
I'm going to write more about my trip later and put more pictures, but now I'm just too tired. Hope everyone had a great week :)

Це було чудово та трохи "нервово". Ми чудово провели час - гуляли містом, смачно вечеряли в моїх улюблених ресторанах, жили у затишних кімнатах в моєму новому улюбленому хостелі (я ніколи раніше не жила у хостелі, та цей, що називається Godzillas, був навіть кращим, ніж я сподівалась - гарні кімнати, хороші сусіди, ідеальне розташування та ідеальна ціна)), навіть мали нагоду відвідати PaperWorld Expo.
А ще ми ледь не пропустили свої літаки. Так, у множині! Я ще ніколи не спізнювалась до аеропорту, та сбогодні ми прибігли до стійки реєстрації за дві хвилини до її закінчення. Я думала, що помру від інфаркту просто там, на підлозі терміналу.
Та все скінчилось добре - ми встигли, тому зараз я вдома, пишу блог та п*ю зелений чай з кружки,я ку мені подарувала моя чудова бабуся)
Я напишу про свою подорож більше та викладу фотографії, але зараз я надто для цього втомлена) Сподіваюсь, у всіх цей тиждень пройшов чудово!)

Sorry, I meant to make a post last week, but all of my newly thristed stuff was in the washing machine)) I don't know why all of the stuff is so color-less, it wasn't my intention. It's just that my favorite store didn't have anything interesting in color.

1. Super big nude colored sweater from East Coast - it's too big on me, but really cute and cozy, so I plan to wear it with shorts and boots.

2. Grey chunky scarf - super soft and cheap.

3. Black one shoulder top from F&F - wasn't planning on buying anything, but it lookes too cute) I want to wear it with some full skirt and a flower brooch.

4. Black knitwear vest from Warehouse - waited for the right price, dreaming about what I'm gonna wear it with. The right answear - with everything!))

Also I've bought two pairs of boots - not from a thrift store, but at the sale, so they were rather cheap. Black ones are from Bershka, anr they are perfect for wearing them over skinny jeans. I think it was my beat purchase of these two weaks, because I'm leaving for Moscow in three days and it's much colder there now. Kyiv is still enjoying +23-25 C temperatures, but there's line +12 C in Moscow these days. I think I need to take my coat with me (and it's a bit depressing).

The second pair are supposedly from Christian Lay (I'm not sure). Theay are a bit rough, but I was thinking about buying something like riding boots for all the summer. I already have tons of stuff I want to wear them with.

Well, that's it for now. I do plan on going to the thrift market tomorrow though. I want to find some books for a friend and some cute traveling items as well.

girl's new hair

Yes, I've cut my hair. And dyed it again.
Actually, I've had this hair style on and off for a while, but ever since I've started blogging, I was trying to grow my hair longer. Same story - at some point I just stop liking my reflection at the mirror, so I go and cut my hair again.
I love it. I honestly love it. And I love the feeling of freedom you've got once the lenth is gone. So yes,I'm very happy with my hair)

Та знову стара пісня - у певний момент я розумію, що мені вже не подобається власне відображення у дзеркалі. У той самий момент я йду до перукарні і знову стрижуся.
Мені подобається. Мені дуже подобається. І мені подобається відчуття свободи, яке виникає, щойно волосся падає на підлогу. Тому так. я люблю свою зачіску)

Once there were the cat. He lived in a beautiful city, near the beautiful antique fontain, in a nice restaurant on a ground floor.
All the visitors loved the cat so much. He's been the mascot of the place, it's lucky charm and the part of the family.
But then there was a fire. A horrile fire, that ruined the restaurant and killed the cat. The owners were devastated, and not just because of the restaurant. As soon as they've re-opened, they put a monument to their favorite cat near the entrance. And people from all around the world are taking pictures near that monument.
True story)

Жив-був кіт. Жив він у прекрасному місці, поряд з гарним старовинним фонтаном, у хорошому ресторані.
Всі працівники та відвідувачі дуже любили котика - він був талісманом закладу, амулетом на щастя та членом родини.
Та якось сталась пожежа. Страшна пожежа, що зруйнувала ресторан та вбила котика. Власники ресторану були невтішні, і не лише через збитки. щойно ресторан відчинився знову, вони поставили неподалік від входу пам*ятник котику. І люди з усього світу приходять та фотографуються поряд із ним.

Ethnic festival Art-Pole (Unizh, 2011) - day 3 - Ivano-Frankivsk

Well, the last day of the festival was the day we've spent in Ivano-Frankivsk. We were leaving on an evening train, so had lots of time to walk aroung the city.
Ivano-Frankivsk is the city in Western Ukraine, named after famous Ukrainian poet and writer Ivan Franko. It's very beautiful and charming, with narrow streets, flowers on the balconies and lots of beautiful metal statues - I was charmed by them. See for yourself)

Останній день фестивалю ми провели в Івано-Франківську. Наш поїзд буд ввечері, тож ми мали час погуляти містом.
Івано-Фракнцівськ - місто у Західній Украхні, назване на честь відомого українського поета та прозаїка Івана Франка. Це дуже гарне та чарівне містечко, із безліччю вузеньких вуличок, квітами на балконах та прекрасними кованими статуями, що просто причарували мене. Самі подивіться:)

Going to Moscow

I have such a great news! I'm going to Moscow in a week for a few days. I'm so happy to spend some time with my friends again and to have some time off work)

As I've written before, I'm not a big fan of Moscow, but I have so many great friends there, so I'm super excited. I get to fly (I love flying!), to drink tons of coffee with people I love, to make mojitos and to spend a few days just talking and joking, and laughing and feeling great. I'm already in a process of planning my outfits for the trip)

Last time I've been in Moscow was in May, for Adam Lambert concert)

Як я вже колись писала, я не велика фанатка Москви як міста, але у мене там багато чудових друзів, тому я дуже-дуже щаслива. Дуже хочу знову летіти літаком (обожнюю літати!), пити літри з людьми, який я люблю, змішувати мохіто, провести кілька днів за розмовами, жартами, сміхом та просто побути вільною та щасливою. Burt's Bees lip balm is so great! We don't have Burt's Bees in Ukraine, so I'm so happy I have it now) This lip balm is so great - it smells great, and it feels so good on your lips, makes them more soft and tender <3 Thank you again) It totally made my day. As you can see, I've already tried one of the gifts)

Бальзам від Burt's Bees просто неперевершений. В Україні Burt's Bees поки що не продається, тому я така щаслива, що змогла його спробувати! Thrift finds of the week

In search for some new inspirations and topics for weekly posts I've decided to borrow an idea from Kara from Unusual Form. So Sundays are gonna be dedicated to treasures I fins in thrift stores or on flea markets.
I've been thrifting a lot this past year, and I absolutely love it. I go thrifting every week and sometimes even more often. My favorite store has two rooms: in one of them clothes, books and other stuff are sold on weight and the price for a kilo reduces each day a little - they start from a little less then 10 dollars and by the end of the week it drops to 0,6 of a dollar. Cool, right? Of course at this point there's no much stuff left, but I've found a lot of great pieces at this ridiculous price.
The second room has more interesting pieces and they have a price tag, but in the end of the week all of the clothing costs half of the original price. So you can see why I have to go there few times a week - I'm always waiting for a right price))

This week was very hectic - I've had so much work I couldn't even make myself go to a thrift store on a half price day (and it costed me a very pretty grey maxi dress). But when I finally felt interested and inspired, I've still managed to find a few pieces that costed me a little less then 3 dollars in total)))

- a skirt, made from two traditional Ukrainian shawls - I've always wanted a dress or a skirt with those patterns, but I can't sew, so... Thank you, unnown person from UK, who sold or donated this skirt to a charity shop) It's the third piece with our national pattern, that I find in a pile of Brittish second-hand. What's up with that?)
- Laura Ashley top - it's a bit too big on me, but it still fits good and the color is simply amazing, one of my favorites. I plan to wear this top tomorrow, with navy shorts and a dark cardi.
- lace underskirt - it's pretty and very nice to touch, so I'm pretty happy with this find. One of my favorite skirts has a polyester underskirt, and it's really unpleasant in summer, so now I can wear it with this pretty lace thing)

Over all, I'm very happy with stuff I've fount this week. There was a cream colored Topshop jacket there too, but it was a bit overpriced, especially for a thrift shop. I waited for a half price day, but someone already bought it. Well, I guess it just wasn't right for me)

Having so much work right now - three events just this week! And also freelance translations of Murdoch Mysteries and Mamma Mia! So happy about the last one - have never translated musicals before)
But also really tired. I've just came back from church festival (we were organizing a playground for kids there) and I have a sports event in the city park tomorrow. So for last couple of days I haven't any spare minute to check up on blogs or leave any comments. So sorry, I'll definitely try and make some time in a day or too.

I've decided to combine two of my weekly posts (I'm always late on writing both of them))).

So on Friend Friday we are talking about autumn trends. And my Monday Fashion inspirations (written on Tuesday, as usual) are about trends and ideas that inspire me in the beggining of fall.

To tell you the truth, I'm not big on trends. My relationship with fashion is different - there're things I like, things I don't like, things that out of my comfort zone, but I'd love to try them if they inspire me. So I take a lot of ideas from catwalk trends, but it's just ideas, not rules.

This fall I cannot wait to wear:

1) Colored tights - love them with skirts, dresses, shorts, boots and even summer heels (I have two pairs of chunky, rock-inspired heels in black and grey/nude - can't wait to wear them with some of this pretty colors)))

2) Shorts with tights (and boots) - I've written about my irrational "fear" of shorts - proud to say that I've managed to come over it) Can't wait! I have two great pairs of shorts - in navy and in green)

Who's that TV girl in bright colors?

I don't think anyone knows that about me, but I'm a huge fan of UK TV. Doctor Who, Sherlock, Skins, Misfits, Being Human (I've even translated the whole Season 3 for Ukrainian TV) - you name it. And, of course, Torchwood, one of my biggest TV loves.
Even now, when the cast changed so much and the Torchwood Institute had to relocate from Wales to US, I still enjoy this show a lot. I have such a girl crush on Jilly - classic PR shark, who wants only money and power even in the time of crisis. Her character is a bit grotesque and caricature-ish, but, working in PR and show-biz, I've met lots and lots of such people. So kudos to RTD and other screen-writers, they've managed to create a very interesting character. Again)
But the biggest amount of love goes to wardrobe department. Honestly, she can look a bit over the top, but I still like it. A redhead with red lipstick on, who's wearing only bright red, yellow or green - isn't it just great? Such an interesting approach - she looks amazing among people who's wearing mostly black, grey or beige.

I'm actually thinking about adding one more weekly posting feature and TV inspirations seems like a nice idea. I know my TV-shows) Please. let me know, If you'll be interested in reading it)

Думаю, мало хто про це знає, але я дуже люблю британські серіали. Доктор Хто, Шерлок, Скінз, Місфітс, Бути Людиною (я навіть перекладала весь третій сезон для українського телебачення) - я люблю їх усі. І, звісно, Торчвуд - моя величезна ТВ-любов.

Навіть зараз, коли акторський склад так сильно змінився, а Інститут Торчвуд мав переїхати з Уельсу до Америки, я все одно дуже люблю цей серіал. І дуже люблю Джиллі - класичну акулу PR, що навіть у такі страшні часи прагне лише грошей та влади. Її персонаж може здаватися трохи гротексним та карикатурним, але я, працюючи у PR та шоу-бізнесі, на жаль зустрічала дуже багато таких Джиллі. Тому респект РТД та іншим сценаристам - їм знову вдалося створити дуже цікавий персонаж)

Але мої герої - це люди, що відповідають за гардероб. Серйозно, вона може мати трохи вульгарний вигляд, але мені все одно все подобається. Руде волосся, червона помада, і при цьому вона завжди вдягнена у червоний, чи жовтий, чи зелений - хіба не клас? По-моєму, ідея просто чудова - вона вигідно відрізняєтсья від інших персонажів, що вдягнені здебіьшого у щось чорне, сіре чи бежеве.

Я власне зараз саме думаю про те, аби додати ще одну щотижневу рубрику, і цікаві ідеї з ТВ-серіалів здаються цілком непоганою темою. На серіалах я добре знаюся. Напишіть, якщо вам цікаво буде про це читати)

While I'm waiting for pictures from last week, when my friends come to visit, I think I need to post an outfit from the week before. Right now Kiev is melting in an unexpected heat-wave, so I can't even imagine putting on a pair of jeans instead of a light dress. It was quite warm then too, but I felt really comfortable in this outfit.

As the last outfit, this one also reminds me a little of what Rachel Zoe wear. Love this floral shirt - it's quite big on me, but really comfortable and a belt can solve the problem of bigger size.

Also - I love how it matches my wedges) It's a bit too matchy-matchy for me, but I've bought the shoes first and then had a huge thrifting luck with finding this dress and this shirt) I'm all for florals this summer, so it was a great coincidence)

Поки я чекаю на фотографії з минулого тижня, коли до мене приїжджали друзі, нарешті покажу вбрання з позаминулого тижня. Зараз у Києві через неочікувану спеку плавиться асфальт, і я навіть подумати не можу про те, щоб вдягнути джинси, а не легеньку сукню. тоді теж було доволі тепло, але у цьому вбранні я почувалась дуже комфортно.

Як і вбрання з минулого поста, це теж нагадує мені те, що могла б вдягнути Рейчел Зое. Дуже люблю цю квітчасту сорочку - вона на мене завелика, але дуже приємна до шкіри, а ремінь легко вирішує проблему більшого розміру.

Також мені дуже подобається, як вона поєднується із взуттям. Можливо, вони занадто вже схожі, але я спершу купила ці босоніжки, а вже потім мені пощастило знайти цю сукню та цю сорочку. Я цього літа люблю квіточки, тому мене дуже порадувало це співпадіння)

P.S. - I'm gonna be a bit MIA this week - two of my best friends are coming to visit, from Lithuania and Russia)) I get to see the once a year, for like a week, so I just can't wait. I'm actually suppose to go meet them at the station in about an hour <3 Have a great week, everybody :)

First of all - my mom was so happy, when I've translated all of your kind comments to her))) She loves this dress so much) Also she'd corrected me - it was 1976, not 1972. She said, that she was so excited about that dress, that she'd put it on as soon as she pinned (!) the cut out fabric together and ran two stairs up looking like that just to show it to her friend)))

Well, my mom's crazy and it's a family thing)

Second - the autumn is coming! It's not in the air yet, but I think I can already smell it. I love autumn!

I wore this outfit for a walk around city, but I tend to wear it for a lot of occasions - work, going to movies, meeting friends. It's pretty, yet very comfortable, and it matches great with these espadrillas (funny thing - I've bought shoes first).

Also - I think graffiti shot are my thing now. Exibit A, Exibit B, Exibit C)

По-перше - моїй мамі було дуже приємно, коли я прочитала їй всі ті чудові коментарі. Вона дуже любить ту сукню. До речі, вона мене виправила - це було 1976-го руку, а не 1972. Вона каже, що їй так сподобалась ця сукня, що вона, ледве сколовши вирізані шматки тканини булавками, побігла сходами на два поверхи вгору, щоб показатися своїй подрузі))

По-друге - скоро осінь! Ще не відчуваєтсья її присутність, але я вже відчуваю осінній запах. Обожнюю осінь!

Це вбрання я вдагала на прогулянку містом, але часто ношу його з будь-якого приводу - на роботу, в кіно, на зустріч з друзями. Вона гарні, але, водночас, і зручна, до того ж чудово поєднується з взуттям (смішно, але спочатку я купила його).

I've written about this dress once before, but now I have some pictures that can do it justice. My mom made it in 1972 and it's a genuine silk - the most beautiful and luscious fabric known to men.
I love it with all of my heart.
I wore this for the art exibition at PinchukArtCentre and a walk in the park.

Я вже писала про цю сукню раніше, але тепер в мене, нарешті, є хороші фотографії. Моя мама пошила його у 1972 з натурального шовку - найбільш гарної та звабливої тканини у світі.
Люблю цю сукню всім серцем.

Lately I'm concidering starting to paint again. It's one of my favorite things to do - mixing paints, preparing the paper. One of the most relaxing and cleansing experiences ever. I feel so bad that I don't have much time for painting now. But I'm ready to make some ajustments in my life to find the time, because nothing is better for me then working with colors)

1. What part of the world do you blog from?

I blog from Kyiv (Kiev), the capital of Ukraine. It's a beautiful, more 1500 - years old city with very impressive history, located in Eastern Europe.

2. If you had to describe the overall mode of dress for where you live what would you say?

I have no idea if there's a mode. On the streets of Kyiv you can see everything - designer gowns, gothic, emo, and punk outfits, cute high street dresses, national vyshyvanka shirts, track suits and anything you can only imagine) My city is very diverse and eclectic - lots of people, lots of nationalities, lots of turists (lots and lots of them).

3. Do you fit in with the status quo around you or do you break the mold?

I think city vise I blend in into eclectic crowd just fine. As for my friends and colleagues - I do think I'm breaking mold a little. I just love to dress up not only on occasions, but each and every day.

4. If you have lived or traveled to another part of the country/world did your clothing choices evolve?

As an adult I've never lived anywhere but Kyiv. But as a young child I've relocated for a few years to Jaromer in Chech Republic,where my parents worked then. I was 4 years old, but I do remember how I came there with my grandma and grandpa for the first time. When my dad saw me, he took me to the nearest clothes shop, bought me new t-shirt, pants, cardi and shoes, and the old ones put into the trash can on the central square)) Yeah, my grandma, very excentric old lady, was dressing me weirdly and thought that shoes with holes in them were good for a kid)))

5. If you had to describe your style by naming a specific city, what would you be? I'd like to be London or New York. But I have no idea how to describe my style. I am very eclectic dress vise - I love to try on new things and trends and to push myself to be more open and experiment more with my clothes.

Stripe obsession

One of my favorite patterns to wear is stripes. So I was obsessing over this dress for a while now. I've seen it some time ago at outlet online-shop Prestige (they have like daily updates on nice deals from high street brands and designers, and you can by clothes via this site with some discount). But at that time I was but had no oppotunity to buy it that time. And now it's gone forever! ( I love me some drama))).

Finally a spare minute to post pictures from festival's first day. We've been there for only 3 days (most of the people spent whole 6 days), but it still was amazing. Great place, beautiful nature, nice people, good music. It took place in Carpathian mountains, in western part of Ukraine, on Dniester river, near cute little village called Unizh.

Beautiful ceramic plates made by guys from crimea. My frien Natasha is a huge fan of fish prints and paintings, so she was so hearbrocken - this huge plate was rather pricy.

The festival was located in a perfect place - on the territory of an old abandoned farm, remade to host open-air shows, so all the visitors had a lot of place for creativity - they were making beautiful grafities on old walls, on barns and ebven on ground. I'll post some pictures later)

Monday fashion inspiration on Tuesday)
Today I want to write a little about beautiful, talented and very stylish actress Charlotte Riley. I loved her in The Take, even in DCI Banks (the show itself is incredibly bad written, but Charlotte was amazing - she made her character very conflicted, interesting and captivating in a weird dark way), but especially in Wuthering Hights. And the fact that she've met her love on the set... Well, it's like a happy ending to this dark story.
I don't know, who's Charlotte stylist is, if there is one, but nevertheless - she always looks amazing. Her very feminine, beautiful, always recognizable style is a true pleasure to watch. I actually think, that when Antonia Thomas appeared on, I believe, BAFTAs in that cute dress with full patterned skirt, my first thought was: "Oh, this dress is so Charlotte!".

I'm back) Well, I came back yesterday at 6 a.m., but I was so tired I couldn't blog even if my life depended on it. So, here I am.

And that's what I wore today. I adore this dress. I found it last year in my mom's closet and fell in love with it - at first sight and at first touch. Lots of people don't know this about me, but I'm a bit of a tactile learner - I will never ever buy or wear anything that I don't like to touch. And this one feels like a piece of heaven - it's genuine silk, and it's amazing for hot summer. And this pattern, and colours, and all the detailing! And the fact that my mom made it herself 30 years ago - wow. I'm in love with this dress and it's boho feel.

I'm leaving for open air festival today, and I'm so incredibly stressed out. This last couple of days were so chaotic - I've had tons of work both on my day job, and with freelance projects. Last night I was translating a documentary about Madonna till 3 a.m. And today I I had to wake up at 7 a.m. to pack my backpack. I'm pretty sure I forgot something really, really important and I'm gonna regret not taking my mom's vintage red dress (I'm crying inside, seriously), but I had to work with very limited packing space. And I had to leave so many cute boho dresses, skirts and pieces of jewelry((( It's not like I can wear them everyday, and ethnic festival would've been a perfect oppotunity. Well, I plan to dress up, but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna want to wear all the stuff I left at home. Oh, love for fashion vs. practical packing - always a struggle)

Traditional Ukrainian shawl I've bought in my favorite thrift store. It's actually funny - they sell only stuff from UK, and last week I've found two Ukrainian shawls, black and white there (I've bought both, duh)). It's just so weird - I can't help but think about women who wore them, who took this beautiful things to UK with them.
Why have I bought them? I couldn't left them in the shop, just couldn't. And, by the way, they were so much cheaper then the new ones, so why the hell not?
Cute Teddy bear I bought at the same store. i saw him whily bying the first shawl last week - he was looking at me with those pretty eyes and offering me flowers. I went back there today and he was still waiting for me to take him home. I did (and for half of the price)). One of my secrets - I have a pretty good collection of teddy bears, and I've saved bears from thrift stores before. I take good care of them)))
Oh, and my Disney princess tea mug. I've bought it 'cause it's huge, not 'cause it's pink) But sadly my favorite Disney princess is not on in - there're Snowwhite, Cinderella andBelle, but I;ve always loved Jasmine the best)
A white rose I got from a frieng today. The clay bottle was a gift from my mom's friend who knew I love interesting bottles.
Teapot I've inharited from my father. I've rescently recovered it from my grear grandma house (there's gonna be a blog post full of family treasures and vintage dresses). He loved to make a whole teapot of the strongest tea possible and drink it while he was reading some book. I haven't made tea in it yet, but I love to have it in my room.

1. What’s your go-to outfit formula?

Now, in summer, it's basically really simple - a dress + a cardigan or a skirt + some cute top + cardigan or a jacket. Add some interesting earrings, a brooch (vintage or handmade) and gladiator sandals or espadrilles - and here you go, there's my basic oufit formula for a rainy summer.

2. How did you come about this formula?

I've been dreaming about a huge amount of dresses for years. Lately my collection became pretty impressive, so I'm living a dream)) What can be nicer than a dress and a cute cardigan? You can belt a dress, or you can belt cardigan - slightly opened, showing a bit of a great fabric of a dress or closed, that a dress would be transformed into a skirt...
I also like wearing jeans or a casual skirt with striped top (kinda what I'm wearing right now - striped top with turtle-neck, denim skirt, studded belt and faux leather jacket). I've already wrote about my love for stripes on numerous occasions - yeah, i Love them)

3. Do you have different formulas for different occasions in your life?

Well, of course) Outfit wise I love spring and especially autumn for it's possibilities for layering, so my favorite outfits are designed to be worn in slightly chilly weather. Summer is usually really hot here, so the less clothes you're wearing, the better for you. Winter is cold, so I usually have to make more effort to look good - not to go for safe, warm, but lame combos, but to layer more smartly.

4. Has it morphed over the years?

Definitely. In my school years I used to live in jeans and oversized T-shirt and sweaters. Than I transfered to a really prestigious school and had to wear uniform - a black pencil skirt, white shirt and green uniform jacket (hated that thing). I was wearing uniform for like three years, but it kinda messed me up))) On my first year of uni I was still wearing pencil skirts and tailored pants and white shirts and blouses with classic jackets, while my mates were wearing some crazy oufits and dying hair blue and red) Then I've relaxed a bit and returned to jeans and sweaters.

5. Which other blogger’s outfit formula would you like to swipe?

I can't name just a few bloggers - I really like the style of every single one blogger I follow, and it's not just polite words/ i really do.

1. Since you began blogging do you notice a change in the types of things you gravitate towards while shopping?
Definitely. I tend to experement more now and I find lots of inspiration in other blog I read.

2. Do you find, as a fashion blogger, that you dress differently from your family and friends? Do they comment on that?
Well... My mom is a very stylish woman herself, so I think we sometimes inspire each other. I actually like to borrow her stuff - belts, tops, today I wore her white full skirt for work. My mom's 54, but she has a really young and vibrant wardrobe)

As for my friends - I've noticed that my best friends, who used to joke about me being always so put together and dressing up without an occasion, are making more afford now. I can see that they are noticing some ideas and incorporating them into their outfits. The best compliment to my fashion loving heart)

3. What’s the weirdest fashion that you secretly like, even if you aren’t bold enough to wear it?
I'm thinking about wearing shorts for quite a while (it's not weird, but I like them and I don't wear them)). Not vacation sun-beach-sand type of shorts, but more dressy ones, especially in colder temperatures -with tights and boots. I even got myself a pair - navy blue from Marks&Spencer. But only wore them once, like the beach type shorts. Don't know why I'm so scared of them. I guess I need to work on my body confidence a little bit more.

4. Looking at current trends – what would you like to try but need to build up the courage to do?
Long pleated skirts, full vintage outfits, shorts (as I said earlier).

5. Toot someone’s horn – what fashion blogger out there inspires you with her bold fashion choices?
Solannah and her full vintage life, Keiko Lynn, The Clothes Horse - just three names I've thought about first. But thre are so much more great and creatively looking bloggers, that inspire me))

... clothes) I've had the best shopping luck today - not everyday you can add 5 pieces of clothing to your wardrobe for reasonable money. First of all - I swinged by my favorite thrift shop before work and managed to get my hands on two items I was thinking about for the whole week. I honestly just got lucky - today is the day when price for all the items in the store are decreasing to 50%. So I've got one really pretty grey dress and pink polka dotted sweater for half the price!
Then when I came home from work I've found a parcel in my mail box! It was some clothes I've ordered a few weeks ago - two tops (well, basically three, cause the first one consists of two) and this cute grey clutch I really like.

I'm so happy) I love new clothes and I love receiving mail. And I love thrifting. So yeah, now I can work on my freelance projects with more passion)

I love my friends to death, but lets face it - none of them knows how to hold a camera. Well, except for Ira, but we see each other very rarely lately due to our busy schedules.

That's what I wore today for work+movies (Killing Bono rerun in my favorite cinema). I kinda like this outfit. Plus I had to change into my black amd white polka dotted rainboots during the day, and that was a totall pattern firework))) Stripes+polka dots+geometric pattern = happy me. Monday fashion inspiration - Gok Wan's "How to Dress"

I've wrote about my respect and admiration for Gok and his work before (here), and I have a chance to write about him again)
Last weekend my friend and I went on a hunt to one of the largest thrifting markets in the city. I wasn't in a mood for clothes (have no idea why - I've only bought one top and that was it), but books... Yeah, I'm always in the mood for books)))

And one of my best finds that day was this pretty thing) I would never bought it new (lets face it - delivery's gonna be more expencive than the book itself, and it's already costs almost 20 pounds), but used - hell yeah.
I've read it this weekend, between sunbathing on the nearest lake, going to movies to see "X-men: First Class", visiting my Granny, working on translation and shoping for fresh fruits and berries on my local market. And I've really enjoyed this book.
It's not the best style guide that everyone should read. But it's definitelly fun and enjoyable. And Gok's got great ideas on the layering.

Monday fashion inspiration - Dolly Kei

I've wrote about some trends of Japanese street style before and my post on Mori girls style is still very popular. I love street fashion and Japanese fashion, and I love to write about the stuff I love (ha)), so... Here we go.

Dolly kei are often mistaken for Mori girls, but this two styles are totally different. Yes, they have some similarities, but while Mori girls are all about light and lace and cuteness, Dolly Kei girls are taking very different approach.

They loves everything all the old and mysterious - grimoirs, sculls, bird bones, acient trunks, scary Eastern European fairy-tales and Gypsy culture. Their best friends are porcelain dolls, books of spells, antic pocket watches and cameos. They are modern versions of scary witches, those who steal children and live in a forest in a small house that stands on chicken legs.

While Mori girls love pastel colours and trying to create a really young and fresh look, Dolly Kei girls are found of all the things old and dark. They don't go for pastels, they love their clothes dark - purple, green, burgundy, brown, dark blue...

They don't like to look natural. Their style is their costume - old clothes, weird jewelry and accessories, bright hair. They look really weird but pretty amazing at the same time.

So you know those days when you can look through entire fashion magazine and nothing really clicks? I've had one of those a few days ago. But this picture changed everything.
Isn't it great? I love everything about it - the spring and fresh feeling of it, this girl's hair, her clothes, her bare feet (I love walking barefeet or to seat somewhere in the park like this in summer), I love her bag and ballerinas (though I'd never left my bag on the ground - I grew up in the city and I know how fast ans easy someone can steal your purse), and I especially like the fact that she's knitting! I love to knit)

I have some great news) I've got my plane ticket yesterday and on May 27 I'm flying to Moscow to see my friends and to attend Adam Lambert's concert! Isn't it great? It is! For so, so many reasons.
1. I love to fly.
2. I love to travel in general.
3. I love my friends.
4. I love Adam Lambert ever since AI.
5. I'd finally get my Pan Am bag from a friend who'd be back from Seattle by then.
I'm so happy there's no words to describe how much.
To tell you the truth, I'm not a fan of Moscow. It's totally not my type of city and I can't say that I like it that much. But I have so many great friends there! Few of them have already made their appearance in this blog)
I'm so excited! I'm already planning my outfits for that weekend, and the book I'm gonna take to the plane, and some duty free shopping,and great time with friends. What an awesome feeling - I love this kind of anticipation))

Agro fitness

It's huge weekend in Ukraine - four days in a row. It's like we hit time without Mondays - three weeks of long weekends.

On Saturday me and my cousin decided to take advantage of it and hit the road. We went to our great grandma's house - to the village 40 minutes outside the city. There's a lot of work there - we're thinking about building a new house there. My cousin has a son and he wants his son to have the same great summers in the country that we've both had. There's a lot of questions about ownership and stuff that we've yet to decide, but it's been a real blessing to spend a day in country.

And to do some agro fitness)) We had to deal with and old apple tree and then to clean the old hayloft - you wouldn't believe how dusty and gross it was. We wasn't even able to finish it in one day. Well, I'm looking forward to lot's of weekends in the country)

1. Which celebrity (celebrities) do you look to for fashion inspiration?
I wrote about this once or twice - I adore Irish actress Katie McGrath. I love her style, I love her approach to outfits and mixing vintage, designer and high-street pieces of clothing together. And also I find her incredibly beautiful, so yeah, Katie is the first. I even own an online community for her fans. Also you can check out my Katie McGrath style blog)
I also like Rachel Weisz, Zoe Deshanel and Natalie Dormer a lot. And the funniest things - I have no admiration for acting talents of Sienna Miller, Keira Knightley or Rachel Bilson whatsoever, but I love their styles a lot)

2. When it comes to your own personal style, what inspires you?
My biggest inspirations now are all of the fashion blogs I follow. They are inspiring me to take risks, to dress up more, to find inspiration in different epochs.

3. How do you hope to inspire your readers?
That's the tough one. I don't actually know. I've started blogging more to challenge myself - to write more, to dress up more, to communicate more. If I'm inspiring anyone in any way, I am really honored.

4. Outside the realm of fashion who/what inspires you?
I've been inpired by my late grandma for all of my life. She was a great woman - really strong and independent, a doctor, a pediatrician. When she was a young girl, barely on the third year of medical university, she signed up to the army and went to the battlefield to save lives. She was immediatelly signed to the battle of Kursk - it's still remains the largest series of armored clashes. She went all the way to Berlin and saved hundreds of soldiers from gangrene. When the War ended, she went back to university and became PhD. Some people still recognize my mum on the streets and greet her with the words: "Oh, you're the daughter of the doctor lady! She saved my son...".
My grandma is my all time inspiration. And she also inspires me in terms of fashion - I wear a lot of her shawls and jewelry, and have a few of her beautiful dresses that need some altering.

5. And since Idol is ending… Which songs inspire you?
I don't know whether music inspires me in terms of fashion, but I love jazz - it always makes me feel more beautiful and feminine. I love almost all types of music, but jazz is that special style I always listen before going out with my friends or going on the date.

Things I'm super excited about today:

- short work-day and long weekend - it's Easter week in Ukraine, so we are working till 4 today and then we have 3 days off. So I'm so happy - finally I'll caught up on some sleep))
- evening at Murakami with my good friends - sushi and Japanese noodles, yes))
- my new black pumps - if next week's gonna be a little warmer, I'm gonna finally wear them)

- new dresses - light and lovely.

- my handmade jewelry is on sale at the handmade fair right now.
- I have a few good books to read, for example the second part of Stieg Larsson's Millenium trilogy.

Monday fashion inspirations - body confidence

I don't live in UK and I don't own a cable TV package (I actually watch TV very rarely )), but I watch a lot of Brittish TV for my freelance projects.
And I have to admit that I'm a huge fan of Gok Wan. It's not a post about him, but I have to menthion his name a few times. I do believe that he's doing a great job at helping people feel good about themselves. And I'm not talking about women on his show - I've been working in showbiz for far to long to believe in genuine reality TV. I'm talking about women who watch his show and who, I hope, start feelinig a little bit more confident in themselves.
I know that there are lots and lots of different opinions about Gok and his work, but I really like him. I always watch How To Look Good Naked when I have a chance, and I really liked his TV documentary Too Fat Too Young which I watched a few days ago.
I think the topic of this movie is very important and everyone needs to see it. Gok is talking about his fight with obesity, about constant bullying which he suffered at school for being fat, gay and Asian at the same time, about being so unhappy about himself that it brought him to the vicious circle when you eat, you feel unhappy about yourself, and you start eating more to make yourself feeling better.
It is a huge problem for young kids as well as for adult people. I personally was very unhappy about myself in primary and secondary school - I was slightly overweight (some may say that I'm still overweight but I honestly don't care), I had no friends and I was to open and kind for everyone to mock and bully me. And I do think that the main reason for this wasn't my weight or size. I just didn't like myself then and cruel children weren't helping.
So maybe that's why I liked Miss Naked Beauty, the other one of Gok's shows, so much. It's not perfect, it had it faults and at times it looked a bit cheap (finale was really cheap and awkward - just my oipnion). But at the same time this show is great. Because we, girls, became way too dependent on our make up kits and fake tan. I was really scared a few years ago when I figured out that I don't feel pretty or confident without make up on. And I honestly don't think that it's the way to go. I want to feel beautiful every day and my confidence shouldn't depend on concealer, mascara or lipstic. Because if it is, it's not a confidence, it's self-delusion.
So I really like the idea of beauty contest where girls learn to love themselves the way they are, to appeciate natural beauty, where they have a great tasks of writing articles, talking to people and gathering public opinions on important matters.
And I love Shona Collins. She's beautiful, smart, she has great dress scence (well, I adore her polka dotted dresses amd full skirts) and nice writing style, she's confident in her own skin and helping others to feel confident too. It's such a great feeling - to see a girl with such a nice figure and size 14, who's just happy to be beautiful and healthy.
That's the role model I want my future children to be inspired by. I don't want them to be obsessed with unrealistic images of models, which are airbrushed, photoshoped and altered in every possible way. I want beauty magazines showcasing all sizes of models, because we all are different - we're curvy or skinny, tall and short, we have different shapes of our bodies, lips, noses, breasts. And if we don't look like those girls we now see in magazines, it doesn't mean that we are not beautiful. Because honestly - even those girls don't look like this in real life, they have lots and lots of help.

As for me - I'm 26 years old. For the last 10-12 years I've lost some weight and gained some weight, so as lots of us, girls. And now, when I look at myself in the mirror, I sometimes think that honestly - I could drop a few kilos. I know I'll feel even better if I do. But that doesn't mean that I don't feel good about myself now. And this is the most impornant thing.

I look at the mirror every day and I'm repeating to myself that I'm awesome the way I am. I've been through some tough times in my life, but I refuse to go back there))

Full Time Fabulous - Where are you from?

I'm so happy to become a part of Full Time Fabulous Community. I't such a great project! For the first month we will be talking about the places we call our home.

My home is Kyiv (Kiev), the capital of Ukraine (which is the largest country in Europe). My country was a part of USSR till 1991, when we finally got out independence. So no, Ukraine is not Russia. We are and independent country, with our oun language, history and culture, and it always makes me quite sad when people are saying: "Oh, you're Russian". I'm not, I don't have a single drop of Russian blood, and I was born and raised in Ukraine, in a very pathriotic family.

According to the legend, Kyiv was built more than a 1500 years ago by prince Kyi, his two brothers and his sister Lybid. There's also a beautiful legend about Apostle Saint Andrew, who came on the banks of the river Dnieper, put his cross into the ground and said: "It's gonna be a great city here". This beautiful Baroque church called Saint Andrew's Church was built on that place by Bartolomeo Rastrelli in 1767.

Kyiv is a great place to live. It's one of the greenest cities in the world - we have lot's of parks, even in the centre of the city. As for architecture - Kyiv combines ascient buildings and monument from times when the medieval East Slavic civilization was developing on this land, architecture from XVII-XIX, a few quite ugly gifts from Soviet era, and modern architecture which is a mixture of neon lights and XIX century styled buildings.

I love my city with all of my heart. We all have some things that define us (and I've never thought that it's bad). So being from Kyiv is one of mine, and it's as important as me being a woman, a vegetarian or a writer.

And I know that in every place my life will take me to, I will always be proud and happy to say that I'm from Kyiv. My city is beautitiful, historical, spiritual, very happy and very safe. It's the city of my ancestors (I'm of Ukrainian, Czhech and Karelian origin, but I'm the 4th generation of my family who lives in Kyiv)).

I'm not sure I've participaded in the right way (need to read manual again)), but it;s such a great topic I wanted to write about it no matter what.

On Friday our agency went on a corporate retreat - to the old ghost town (well, it's more of an old deserted camping place, but it does look like a ghost town, doesn't it?)) to play paintball and to have a nice picnik outside the city. Yeah, we do party a lot. But we work a lot too))

I'm always telling everyone how pacifistic I am, but I also like to shoot . When I was a young girl my dad, my cousin and I were spending hour shooting cans and bottles. So yeah, I can shoot and I like to shoot and I honestly believe that it is an art of some sort.
I had a great time. I'd really like to go there with my close friends in a few weeks, because the experience is amazing - you have to use your mind and you have to be calm, and you have to plan your every step.

- I've bought a new laptop. My old one is having so many problems that I can't work on it properly. And I have a lot of freelance translation jobs now and lot's of creative ideas (short stories and articles). So it was inevitable.

- we're having an annivercsary party at the office tomorrow. Well, basically we're working for like an hour and then we're going to the paintball club for a game. I'd really like to go, but there's a huge chance that I won't make it - I'm having an event on Monday and client haven't approved of a few details yet. Well, possibly no paintball for Marina.

- work's been interesting - sometimes boring, sometimes nerve-wracking, sometimes really boring. Craving some nice projects - I like organisation and planning, not writing policies.

I love stripes in all colors and shapes. And striped top + jeans (or cute skirt) + heels + nice jacket + flower brooch is actually my go to outfit for work this days. I feel professional, casual and cute at the same time (thank God my ad agency doesn't have dress code policies))).
Stripes can be casual or classy, and striped dressing pieces are really adding nice structure to the outfit.

Friend Friday - Fashion Blogging and Feminism

1. Do you think there is an incompatibility between feminism and a love for fashion?

No, there's not. At least it shouldn't be. I have no time to follow all the posts from Feminist Fashion Bloggers, but a week ago or so I was delighted to read these two posts: FFB: Dressing as a Feminist by Veshoevius from The Taxonomy of My Wardrobe and Is This What A Feminist Looks Like? by Vintage Vixen. I can't say it better than these beautiful women did.

2. There is more to each of us than a love for fashion, how do you incorporate every aspect of yourself into your blog?

I've never wanted to have a blog which is strictly about fashion. Don't get me wrong, I love fashion, I love nice dresses, but I can't write about just one aspect of my life. I like to blog about books and movies, about art, about my family, about my hand-made projects. I like to write creative posts and even short stories. So I hope that all of my writing is projecting my thoughts and feelings, and you can see me through it.

3. With the fashion industry still being a male-dominated profession, how do you think it would differ if women played a larger role?

I don't think that it would change much. And honestly - I don't care whether the designer is male or female. I love clothes and I love good outfit ideas. I love both female ad male fashion. Fashion is fashion, art is art, music is music, no matter who creates it.

On the topic of the face of fasion industry - I don't think that it also's going to change, even if all of the designers were female.

4. How is your self-image and the way you carry yourself informed by your beliefs?

I dress the way I like, that's pretty much it.

I wear clothes I feel comfortable in. I know, lot's of fashion bloggers shares the belief that comfortable clothes is some kind of a fashion crime, but I can't disagree more. I am a fashion lover, but I'm not a fasion slave. I am a woman who has a lot of work every day, and I need to be able to feel good to achieve my goals. I am wearing heels, dresses, tights every day, but everything I wear makes me feel good, not the other way around. I buy nice shoes with heels, but each pair feels good on my feet. I'm wearing skirts and dresses in winter, but only if I feel warm in them.

I wear clothes I feel beautiful in. Sometimes I wear short skirts and I don't mind showing a little cleavage, because I love my legs and I love my breast. And I should have a right to dress the way I like.

I don't wear much leather (I've written about my thoughts on this matter in Fashion without mercy). That's it.

5. Do you think clothing/makeup/hair helps communicate the truth about yourself or are those things superfluous add-ons?

Yes, I do. And I don't think that it's good or bad, that's just the truth. I honestly don't like that we're still judging people by their appearances, but I don't know if there's any way to not do this. Appearances it just our covers but even the cover says something about the candy. I'm not talking about sizes or shapes now. Or even about dress scence. Even if this things don't matter to you (they don't matter to me - I'm all for self expression and being true to yourself in every way), you can still see the way person treats himself or herself. Even in basic questions, like clean and ironed clothes, clean hair, love or dislike of makeup etc.

I look a little tired and I have a good reason - last couple of weeks were a nightmare on work. But I'm holding up and starting to find time for simple joys of life (I think I don't need to take this much freelance work).
So today mu friend and I went to PinchukArtCentre (it's a great modern art centre, one of the best in Europe) for a new exibition. It consists of two great shows:
- "You+I" by the South African artist Candice Breitz - she's made three unbelievable tribute installations dedicated to Michael Jackson, Madonna and John Lennon. They look like a line of displays showing a bunch of fans who's singing their idol's songs. I've enjoyed all of the so much! Especially the 'John Lennon's portret' - he's one of my all time favorites.
- “Tool Bit” by Mexican artist Damian Ortega - it's just so interesting and impressive. Especially his model of the future social housing - it looks like a bunch of mindblowing cyber-punk hives.

Then we went to have some coffee+cookies, so my evening was awesome. And I heart this outfit - it's great for work and great for an art show, it's pretty and comfy at the same time. Love it.

This is honestly one of my favorite pictures in entire world. I don't even know why, but I have such a strong connection to this girl with the cup. I have this picture above my desk (magazine cutting) and on my fridge (cute little magnet). It was my first LJ avatar. I love it so much I sometimes think that it's some kind of a karmic connection))
The picture is called "I'm drinking happiness" and is by Ukrainian artist Yevgenia Gapchinska. I admire her works - they are so cute and inspiring. She has a great and very cozy gallery in the centre of Kyiv which I love visiting. I have several books which vere illustrated by her (among them are 'Alice in Wonderland', 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', 'Matilda' and others) and a Lipton tea mug with her painting printed on it. Monday fashion inspiration - angora bolero

I love boleros! It's such a nice and versatile element for smart layering. And I also like the fact that it's great for every day and for dressing up. But I used to have a strong dislike for angora - I like to wear black, so fuzzy fabric is not such a good idea.
But everything changed when I've found this bolero in my favorite thrift store. It was in a great state (I doubt someone wore it more than two times) and it's so warm, soft and nice, that I've changed my mind about angora immediately.
And I'm proud to say that now it's one of the best and most versatile things in my wardrobe. I've worn it with dresses, various tops, white shirts, with jeans and skirts. Here are some examples (not all of the pictures are good, sorry):

Friend Friday - Finding the Balance

1. When it comes to prioritizing your life, in what place does blogging fall?

I afraid it's not in the top of my list, I guess it's on the 5-6 place now (it includes this blog, my other blog, devoted to movies and books reviews mostly, twitter and tumblr accounts). Blogging is very important in my life, but lately, when I have to choose between new blog post or a freelance job, I'm choosing freelance and some cash. I hope that someday I'll have the oppotunity to turn my blog into my job, but until then...

2. We all wish we had more free time to dedicate to blogging and all it entails. What are your tricks for taking advantage of the time you do have to be as productive as possible?

I like to think about my posts while I'm in the subway or when I'm doing something like ironing. I usually get inspiration in a second, but I need some time to think it through. So I'm using the routine moments of each day to think about the topic, about everythink that I'd like to write. It's pretty much the same with my short stories - I like to work on the plot when I'm doing something boring)))

3. Have you discovered any short-cuts that makes blogging easier or more time efficient?

Not yet(( That's why my blog suffers a little since I've began to work full time again. I hope I'll find some ways to blog easier and to find more time for it.

4. Do you have an editorial calendar or something similar that helps you plan ahead?

I've started Monday Fashion inspirations to make myself write more and to write on topics that are exiting and inspiring to me. For the last coule of weeks I don't have a lot of free time to write it every week, but I work on it)

5. If time wasn’t an issue what you would be doing on your blog/for your blog that you aren’t doing now?

I'd blog more and I'd do much more outfit posts. I know that these posts are not that popular among my followers, but I like to blog about outfits)) So I would definitely do much more of those)))

Handmade fair

I'm preparing my 'flower buttons' for the handmade fair which starts this Wednesday. As I'm working full time now, I can't be present at the fair myself, so my friends are graciously offered to sell my jewelry for me (I love my friends))).

Here's a small part of what I'm presenting at the fair. There's still a big package of jewelry my mom made and a few of my painted bottles. But right now I'm working on these crochet goodies while watching Iron Chef Uk. And I'm basically feel like an Iron Chef - I have so much going on at the same time! Painting the buttons (yes, I'm painting the buttons which are going on top of some brooches), crocheting earings, putting brooches together while also working on the stand project... Insane))) But so cool)

Monday fashion inspiration

Haven't posted for a while, and I really want to start posting regularly again)))

So, no brands, no pictures of clothing or pictures at all today. Mostly because for the last couple of weeks my biggest fashion inspiration is my work.
You see, I've been working freelance for a while. And before that I was working in a concert agency which turned me into a tomboy again - I had to run around the city every day, so I had no desire to dress up or to wear heels whatsoever (only for parties and concerts). And before that I was working freelance too. So I haven't been working full time for a while. I've started this blog mostly to turn myself into a girl again - I was so embarrassed when I've understood that I was wearing three sport sweaters and two pair of jeans for the whole winter while working in concert agency.
So it worked. because deep down I love to dress up, I really do. But now I have to dress for work every morning and sometimes I slip and run out of ideas.
You know how it goes? Sometimes you wake up, you see that that's so cold outside, and it's snowing, and it's -10 C, and you just give up. You put on a dependable pair of jeans, warm sweater and you just not willing to make an efford.
Yeah, I do that sometimes. But then I come to work, I go to talk to our copywriters, or someone in the art department and they alll look so good! It always get me thinking: "Well, we're actually walking the same streets each morning! None of us are driving to work because it's a big city and rush hours are brutal. They are living on the different sides of the city and I'm living nearby, just two subway stations away. How come I look like a sloppy university student and they look like the gorgeous women they are?".
And all of these girls, with their cute knitwear dresses, and nice tights and high heeled boots are the best inspiration ever. I can slip occasionally, but the next day I always make an efford and dress up. I'mnot willing to freeze, so looking good in February requires some thought and smart layering, but it really pays off - in self confidence and good mood mostly))

And what inspires you on a daily basis? Especially in winter?

I'm still practicing for my radio demo, and yesterday a guy from the studio sent me one of my tracks.
I'm speaking Ukrainian about some movie news. So, if anyone is interested in hearing my voice - press 'play'. I'm still disappointed by my intonations, but at the same time impressed with my spelling. Constant work is a necessity.

Who is Mimi?

I'm back to working full time just 4 days ago, and I'm already puzzled by my new work place.
Well, we usually celebrate Women Day on March 8, and something like Men Day (though it's more like a Military Men Day, but no one cares)) on February 23.
And in advertising company I work for there's a tradition - some kind of a costume party on this days, and not just after work, but during the whole work day. A great idea, yes. But...
Last year on February 23 all the women were dressed as flight attendants (why wasn't I working here last year?!)). But this year the theme is... well, we're all going to be show girl from Pirates of the Carribean/Wild Wild West era))))

So on February 23 I have to wear corset, skirt and fishnet tights or stockings))) and all the guys are gonna get sailor shirts as soon as they are gonna come into office that morning.

I find that this idea is great, though I've never worked with such young and creative group of people, so it's a little odd for me. I worked in a very conservative office environment for 4 years and two years in the concert management company (which wasn't conservative at all), but I've never experienced anything like this.
I like to dress up (and I've already ordered myself a corset and talked Sasha into sewing me a skirt), but to have a costume party in the office for the WHOLE day - it's gonna be a totally new experience.
Can I be some kind of Lily or Mimi? I'd love too (but office - still weird)).
Does any one had such an experience on their places of work?
